Also, I really have no idea how this place has become more like gaia. I don't get it. Though I haven't been on gaia in years, having rather outgrown the place 7 years ago.

Anyway, sorry to see you've decided to leave, Araiia. Come back sooooooon.

It's always a shame to lose any artist from the forum, whether temporarily or permanently. I'm sure you've got your reasons take care

still, I can't really see why we need to make a thread out of it... I'm sure this could have gone through your commission thread as well. bit too much drama, imo

I've noticed trends come and go in nolani and I think that all the auctions (er, well like only one or two?) are just something that is happening now and will not necessarily completely change the way nolani is. If auctioning and such were as powerful, artists would have started doing it a long time ago. It's just something that some people chose do do because they are limited on time or want to make some quick cash.

As for the people making threads asking artists to make art for them, well I think that's smart. If I had more money I'd do the same, but it gives the artist a chance to look over your character(s) and decide if it interests them enough to do, rather then waiting on a waiting list and having the artist being sort of forced to draw a character they might not like.

When I first noticed you I think it was around or close to summer. LOTS of threads popped up then because people had more time not being in classes and such. It's just a phase nolani is coming to, except for the YuJ, Blue, Espadon thing I'm not sure what to think about all those threads <_< Some lulz I'm sure.

Couldn't you have just posted this on your commissions thread? =P

Anyway it was nice to see all the improvements you went through, you changed from a better then the average bear artist to a really great one.

Nolani forums are sorta like an MMO now. Things have changed, and it's not necessarily the artists' fault. They're behaving reasonably given the situation and taking advantage of the spawn-camping and farming. What do I mean by that? Well, if they have time and want a steady line of work, just set a flat rate and the queue is full within a couple hours. If they don't have much time or want to see how much they can get, set up an auction or place people in the queue according to bribes. For the artists, that's a perfect business. Go go Artist NPCs!

For the players...er...I mean...buyers, the twink gear is money here, and if you don't have it, you just have to have good timing or the obsession to check the spawn points regularly. Get that first hit in and the loot is yours.

So this brings the buyer requests out of the woodwork. People looking for a way to circumvent the queues because they neither have the most money or the best timing. They have a reasonable amount of money to offer if ANY artists are up for the job. Possibly calling retired artists back into business who have just been gobsmacked by the flow of the forums as of late.

Unfortunately, nobody takes those seriously. YSJ had a good idea, but it became a troll fest due to the amount of money, reputation of the buyer, and the parameters of the request. Another buyer followed suit to request just one drawing from any artist that had time, and it got laughed at or scorned, because people thought "onoz, ur in mah forumz stealin mah art slaves!" Trust me, if the artist really wants to be working on their commission requests, no amount of money (contest rewards or requests outside like this one) are going to make them abandon their list. BUT if they do decide to take a break from the list to work on something that's just come up, you'd be best to let them. It means they were terribly burnt out on the queue and need to recharge. Joking around on threads is fun, but it also dissuades serious artists from taking part. Now, by that I don't mean artists who take themselves too seriously, I mean artists who had actually been considering posting work to the thread that the buyer actually requested.

Well, Aion has started now, and I'm sure plenty of folks will soon be requesting those commissions. Servers and races considered, payment will be difficult, so I foresee alot of GW artists doing Aion pics for GW plat.

Araiia, I'm sorry to see you go. I haven't been as vocal on the forums this year, because I'm caught in limbo between artist and buyer. I'd love to do art so I could afford to buy, but I don't have enough time>money>time>money>time anymore. Your work was pretty cool and I would have loved to make your list. I hope you find a good place to do your work, wherever you go.

While I don't really want to just respond on this thread, I have to comment on the trolling that I... probably contributed to :P

Surprisingly, I usually keep my mouth to myself. However, I do enjoy a good trolling when I feel someone deserves it. Not going to name names, but some buyers threads pretty much have exactly who they want to do their commission in their minds already. I think they should just PM the artists instead of opening a thread, then pretty much rejecting all the other artists that wants to try.

And about YSJ, lol he got trolled because of something completely different. :P

True, Blue, when an buyer's intent is to target one or two artists that are really busy already by setting up a glorious sounding request thread, that's pretty crappy. Another I didn't really agree with was that thread several months ago offering 700k worth of zkeys to one person who could give them just exactly what they want, BUT they wanted to have at least a certain number of people to commit to a contest for it first. Not even accepting most of the interested artist, and requesting that people submit applications to be accepted into the contest to begin with...omgwtf! That's some crap right there.

Guys, keep the drama out of this thread. This is a well-wishing thread and should be kept as pristine as possible T_T

Discuss your Nolani issues here.

My apologies. I didn't mean to get so worked up, it was mostly a reassurance to Araiia, that I have also noticed things are different now, and understand the departure.

Hehe, remember when you just were a little newbie at the forums. (Not in drawings, but new to the subforum^^)

Sad seeing you go, and thanks for the comission
